Since 2016, AutonHomme Pontiac has been working to raise awareness about suicide, ways to prevent it and resources for help. We are an organization in good standing with the AQPS, and are accredited to provide training in acting as a sentinel for suicide prevention.
Would you like to play a role in suicide prevention, without being a professional interventionist?
You too can help identify signs of distress in your environment and direct vulnerable people to the appropriate help resources. Visit www.aqps.info.
Sentinels can be compared to first aiders or cardiopulmonary resuscitators. In both cases, they are community members trained to act quickly and provide support until specialists can take over.
To date, over 30,000 suicide prevention sentinels have been trained across Quebec. Thanks to sentinel networks, our community can better identify and guide people at risk, who are isolated or lack social support.
The Beacon Network
Beacons are people who are involved in their community and undergo short training. It only takes a few hours.
- They learn about the support services available here in the Pontiac and the Outaouais;
- They learn about tools that help maintain positive mental health;
- Use their empathetic listening skills to help others.
